Woody
Fragrances in which woods, roots and dry resins play the lead: cedarwood, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, oud.
Citrus or spice on top, wood from the heart onwards, musk and amber molecules in the base.
Also known as: boisés / woody
Woody materials are not very volatile, so they form the base of almost every fragrance – florals included. In the woody family, though, they come first.
Many modern “woods” are synthetic molecules with a woody-amber effect. Since the 2023 amendment, some of them must be listed on cosmetics labels.
